Gina Ward at the Brisbane Affordable Art Fair 2026
I am thrilled to be showcasing a new body of work at the Brisbane Affordable Art Fair this May 7–10 at the Brisbane Showgrounds over the Mothers Day weekend.
In collaboration with Artist + Co, this featured collection explores the intersection of mid century modern architecture and the human form. Each piece draws from my background in the precision of the theatre, my recent TBI and connection, resulting in my signature 'mismatched geometry' that captures the complexity of the abstract bold portraits and form.
Looking forward to a wonderful weekend, don’t forget to say hi! See you there!

Below are the pieces that will be available to view and purchase in person at the fair.
Description:
The rare moment when two entities - whether people, nature, or space, fall into a perfect, synchronised rhythm. ‘Breathing The Same Breath’ is an abstract meditation on this state of total alignment.
Ward utilises her signature architectural geometry to create a sense of structure, yet the layering of colour and texture suggests a soft, organic pulsing. Inspired by her curiosity of the human condition and the vital importance of ‘the breath’ in moments of both crisis and peace, Ward captures the invisible thread that connects us all.

Some truths live quietly beneath the surface, revealing themselves only when we slow down and really look. ‘In Plain Sight’ is a reflection of those hidden layers, the parts of ourselves we share freely, and the parts we keep tucked gently away.

‘A Month of Sundays’ was painted during a deeply personal chapter, after a traumatic brain injury where time stretched and slowed, and healing demanded patience.
Drawing on its namesake, this large abstract work captures the rhythm of repetition, the hush of recovery, and the slow pulse of transformation. Layered clean, crisp lines and soft tones create a spacious yet emotionally piece.
Exhibited at Smash It by B.Lowe Hair + Art Space in Hamilton and The Brass Café in Hendra, this piece invites contemplation, connection, and calm into any space.

Description:
In geometry, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However, in life it isn't that simple. Coming from the country, I heard this idiom quite a bit; ‘As The Crow Flies’. Over the years, these older saying have really stuck with me, perhaps it was always about the journey, however you get to where you want to be.
This original artwork is a visual exploration of that singular, unburdened journey. Moving away from the complexities of modern distractions, this piece celebrates clarity, momentum, and the beauty of a direct path.

There are moments in life that arrive without warning. Small collisions of timing, intuition, and feeling. ‘Happenstance’ captures one of those fleeting junctures.
Created in my signature blend of mid century modern influence and contemporary abstraction, this work draws on rich, nostalgic tones and soft geometric forms.
There’s a deliberate stillness in his form, a subtle tension between what is known and what is possible

Every path tells a story. ‘A Mile In Her Shoes’ is a tribute to the strength and grace embedded in women’s lived experiences. Inspired by the idiom of walking in another’s shoes, this piece speaks to empathy, endurance, and unseen emotional journeys. With layered lines and a grounded palette, the canvas invites reflection on what it means to carry weight while walking forward.
Exhibited in Melbourne’s Whispers and Shouts exhibition, this piece has already sparked important conversations, and it’s now available for your collection.

‘Golden Hour’ captures the quiet transition where light softens, shadows lengthen, and time seems to pause. It’s that fleeting moment, neither day nor night when the world glows with gentle warmth and introspection.
Through mismatched geometry, softened edges, and delicate tonal shifts, this abstract painting explores the rhythm between awakening and rest. The golden palette and subtle contrasts evoke calm and clarity, reflecting both energy and surrender.
‘Golden Hour’ is designed for collectors who value serenity, balance, and clean lines. Its harmony of light and shape brings a luxurious sense of calm to any interior.
Like the fleeting beauty of dusk and dawn, ‘Golden Hour’ reminds us to pause, breathe, and appreciate the light between moments.

Who are we, really? ‘Echo’ explores the layered nature of self. The face we wear, the one we show the world, and the one we hope to become. This large scale abstract portrait balances form and fragmentation, clarity and ambiguity.
With bold clean lines and a grounded palette, this piece reflects on how our identities are echoed and reshaped by experience, expectation, and desire.

Description:
‘Liminal’ captures the moment between what was and what is yet to form. That space where change takes shape.
The archways within this piece are layered forms that echo transition and the passage from one phase to the next. They represent thresholds, both physical and emotional, the spaces we move through without always knowing what lies beyond.
Geometry gives structure to that uncertainty. Within its balance and repetition, I find a sense of order amid change. The bold tones and measured forms hold stillness, yet suggest movement, as if time itself pauses to take a breath.
For me, Liminal is about transformation as an ongoing rhythm, not an arrival. It’s the tension of being both here and on the verge of somewhere new. The continuum of life. A meditation on change, and the quiet beauty found in crossing from one state into another.

There’s a quiet confidence in structure, a calm found in balance.
‘One Man Band’ draws its rhythm from geometry, where colour, line, and space hold their own conversation.
It’s a study on individuality, a moment of stillness composed in soft precision and an exploration of visual harmony, where every shape and tone contributes to a complete, self contained rhythm.

Description
‘Tilt’ captures a moment suspended between balance and surrender.
Each line leans with intention, each shape hums softly against the next. Geometry becomes emotion and colour finds its rhythm in restraint.
Influenced by mid century modern design and abstraction, this work explores the delicate tension between structure and spontaneity. Blocks of form and tone rest gently together, creating a visual conversation where stillness meets movement. A portrait not of a person, but of a feeling in flux.
Each layer carries purpose, revealing the harmony found in imbalance. Perfect for contemporary interiors and collectors who appreciate sophistication through simplicity. ‘Tilt’ brings both vibrancy and calm, a work that feels at once nostalgic and modern, speaking to those who find beauty in the imperfect balance of life, where meaning often lives in the angle, not the line.

Description:
‘Manyung’ is a deeply personal original artwork, inspired by the rural landscapes of my childhood in a small country town. Painted with bold acrylic strokes and warm, earthy tones, this piece a reflection on the cycles of identity and belonging.
The name Manyung represents the place where my journey as an artist began. These mountains, fields, and weathered fences hold stories of scraped knees, grass stained jeans, and the unwavering warmth of a light left on at night as well as a sense of adventure. It’s a piece that honours generational connections; the quirks, flaws, and unconditional love passed down through family. The realisation that their stories are mine too.

‘Tessellate’ explores the way we fit together.
The architecture of relationships, identity, and belonging.
Layered shapes interlock and unfold across the canvas, forming a contemporary abstract composition that feels both structured and emotive. Inspired by geometric repetition and mid century design principles, the artwork reflects the layered identities women hold; daughter, leader, partner, mother, advocate, truth teller and healer.
